The annual meeting of the Sugar Loaf Key Volunteer Fire Dept., Inc., was held on Tuesday, January 16th, 2007, at the Sugarloaf Fire Station (MM17). The formal notice of this meeting was included with the annual fund drive letter that was mailed in December to all addresses and property owners in the primary SLVFD service area. The meeting featured the Annual Reports of the Chief and Treasurer as well as the election of corporate officers for 2007 which included: President, Joe Boveda; First Vice President, Eric Bonar ; Second Vice President, Chris Boveda; Treasurer, Keven Gerard; Secretary, Bob Adair; and Chief, Mike Bowden.
2007 FISH FRY Nearing
The plans for the 2007 edition of the Annual Fish Fry are being finalized. This year, the event will be held on Sunday, February 18th, from noon until 5 PM (or until the food runs out!) There will be good food, drinks, a Book Sale, White Elephant Sale (eclectic treasures and items donated by our many generous supporters,) Bake Sale, representatives from various Community Organizations and more. We hope to see you there!
Sugarloaf Fire Rescue purchased four truckloads of pea rock, weighing 24 tons a load, that was much needed to fill in and replace what Hurricane Wilma’s storm surge washed away.
On behalf of all of us at Sugarloaf Fire Rescue, a great big "Thank You" to Tom Fletcher for donating his time and equipment to help spread our pea rock.

Our Quarters
Sugarloaf Fire Rescue, Station 10 is home to Tanker-10, Engine-10, Squad-10, Brush/Utility-10, and Command-10.
On January 18th Sugarloaf fire Rescue trained alongside Big Coppitt Fire Rescue and Big Pine Fire Rescue. All three departments have worked together in the past, but really never trained together.
Training started at 6:00 PM. Personnel trained on ladder operations, vertical ventilation (roof ventilation).
Teams, or companies, also conducted search and rescue, while a Rapid Intervention Team (R.I.T) stood by. R.I.T. is designed for the sole purpose to go into the building to rescue a downed firefighter.
Souvenir Tee-Shirt Proves Popular Southernmost Volunteer Fire Dept
Deputy Chief Bob Adair reports that the souvenir Tee-shirt that SLVFD members designed in-house has been a big hit with the public, with sales well exceeding initial expectations. Long-time member Gary Teplitsky has agreed to handle on-line sales and shipping through his Baby's Coffee at no cost whatsoever to SLVFD.
Sugarloaf Fire Rescue never solicits contributions by telephone.
And, SLVFD has never received a dime from the solicitors on the mainland that earn a living by falsely claiming they represent the various volunteer departments here in the Keys.
We are currently looking
for dependable individuals willing to give up some of their time to
volunteer with us in service to the community. Training will be
provided. All skills and abilities needed.
